A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 80-year-old Bhim Kohli, a British Indian man, following a fatal assault that occurred while Kohli was walking his dog in a Leicester park last weekend. The boy was apprehended after investigators uncovered evidence linking him to the attack, which resulted in Kohli suffering a neck injury that ultimately led to his death in the hospital.

Kohli, who was originally from Punjab and the proud grandfather of two, had dedicated his life to running a factory that produced jumpers. He was known for his active lifestyle and his deep connection to the community, often tending to his beloved vegetable and flower plots at a local community garden with his dog, Rocky.

The teenage suspect was presented in Leicester’s youth and crown courts, where he verified his identity by stating his name, age, and address. He has been placed in youth detention and will remain there until his next court hearing, which is set for October 11. Alongside him, three girls (two aged 12 and one aged 14) and another boy of the same age had also been arrested earlier but were released without any further action.

The tragic incident unfolded near Kohli’s family home of 40 years, where his daughter Susan heard a disturbance and found her father severely injured under a tree. Fortunately, his dog, Rocky, was unharmed during the attack.

Kohli’s family expressed their devastation over the loss, stating that their “hearts have been completely broken” and that he remained active and hardworking even at his age. Neighbors noted a troubling trend of youth gangs in the area, who had previously harassed Kohli, including throwing rocks at him and spitting on him, incidents he had reported to the police.
